Secondary School Student Drags Ekiti State Government To Court

A Junior Secondary School student has filed a lawsuit against the Ekiti state government.
The student claims to have been singled out during her school’s assembly on May 22 and given 20 strokes of the cane over an “indecent hairstyle” on the order of the principal who also suspended her.
The student identified as Gift Agenoisa is said to be a student of Immaculate Secondary School, Ado-Ekiti and she contended that her suspension violated her rights.
The student who approached an Ado-Ekiti High Court through her mother Odunayo Agenoisa, is seeking N15 million in damages for breach of her “fundamental rights” and an immediate reinstatement to school with unrestricted access to all services.
The school principal, Oluwasanmi F.M, the education commissioner Olabimpe Aderiye, Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission and Ekiti state government are joined as defendants in the case.

Agenoisa filed the lawsuit after her letters of objection and protest to the wife of Ekiti Governor and some appropriate government agencies were not responded to.
