As a means of containing the spread of the virus which has defied every known medical remedy, several governments had initiated lockdown restrictions to limit human interaction which has been proven to exponentially spread the virus.
However, with the consequent decline of the number of recorded cases, the Nigerian government moved to initiate a phased easing of lockdown restrictions to enable the resumption of economic activities as well as other social interactions.
In the wake of the resurgence of the deadly pathogen, Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 stressed that the country is at risk of losing not only the gains from the hard work of the last nine months but also the lives of citizens.
“We are in a potentially difficult phase of the COVID-19 resurgence. Accessing the hope offered by the arrival of the vaccine is still some time ahead,” he said.
In what will no doubt lead to a very quiet and unusual yuletide season, Nigerians have taken to social media to lament the return of the lethal coronavirus at a time many people had started to dust up their dancing shoes.
