Security Operatives Begin Show Of Force Over Yoruba Nation Rally In Lagos

  • Adejobi stressed that Lagos State cannot afford to record a repeat of the violence that trailed the #EndSARS protest in the state.

Security operatives led by the police, on Friday, began a show of force in major areas in Lagos to warn Yoruba Nation agitators against any form of rally slated to hold in the state on Saturday, EKO HOT BLOG has gathered.

The umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, led by Second Republic Senator, Banji Akintoye, had earlier vowed to hold the Yoruba Nation rally at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos, on Saturday.

The group had made the vow after the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, warned the agitators to stay away from the state or risk facing the wrath of the law.

However, in anticipation that the group might go ahead with the planned Yoruba Nation rally, the Lagos State Police Command and other security agencies, on Friday, began a show of force around the nation’s economic capital.

Speaking on the show of force, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, stated that the action was to send a warning to the organisers of the rally or any group of persons planning to stage any rally or procession in the state despite warnings.

The police spokesperson added that the Command and other security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and Department of State Services (DSS), have however put measures in place to prevent any act of lawlessness, oppression, and intimidation of any kind in Lagos State on Saturday and beyond.

Adejobi stressed that Lagos State cannot afford to record a repeat of the violence that trailed the #EndSARS protest in the state.

“The Command still reiterated its stance that anyone caught participating or facilitating the so-called mega rally in Lagos State will be dealt with within the ambits of the law,” the police spokesperson said.
