EKO HOT BLOG reports that Governor Sanwo-Olu approved the provision of working tools and equipment for the 100 street children trained in various vocations.
The Governor made this approval when the “Eko Inspires Me” initiative visited his office.
Sanwo-Olu commended the initiative developed by veteran African Female Talking Drum Artiste, Ara, to help street children through vocational training.
Ara appreciated the Governor for his immense support towards the success of the projects.
Reminiscing on the journey that led to the creation of the initiative, the talking drum artiste revealed that the vision started 10 years ago after an experience her mother had with street children in Oshodi.
The convener highlighted that she almost gave up on the project because of a lack of funding.
Still appraising the Governor, Ara disclosed that Sanwo-Olu was the first Governor to offer her a listening ear to support the project.
She described the Governor as “a man who cares for vulnerable young people.”
In her words, “A lot of homeless children on the streets are not born in such conditions. They are individuals who found themselves homeless because of issues beyond them.”
“We are using this project to lead them back home as responsible members of society.
“The award-winning talking drummer further stated that the initiative was to empower the Street children in different aspects of arts and entertainment.”
“We are empowering and encouraging them to discover their skills in sports, entertainment, and other areas through this project. It takes a caring father to understand and help these children grow out of their mistakes.”
“If truly we desire change in this country, we must see these victims as those who deserve a chance to live,” Ara said.
