The Senate has approved N10bn Federal Government refund request to Kogi state government despite protests from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP senate caucus.
The Senate approved the refund for the state on Wednesday during its plenary session following a report by Senator Clifford Ordia, PDP, Edo Central led Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts.
The Minority Leader Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, PDP, Abia South however, raised eyebrows at the timing of the payment. Adding that, giving the gubernatorial election approaching it was not right to pay the state the refund now.
Abaribe however suggested that the payment should be delayed a week after the governorship election in the state.
It could be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had written the Senate, seeking approval of a total sum of N10.069 billion to Kogi State Government being refund of money spent by the state on behalf of Federal government.
The timing of this refund has however been questioned across all media.
