Eko Hot Blog reports that, raising concerns about the recently renovated Senate Chamber, Senator Ali Ndume voiced his dissatisfaction with the quality of work.
Moreover, the Senate Chief Whip highlighted the absence of electronic voting devices, a crucial component for efficient legislative proceedings.
Additionally, Ndume lamented the poor audio quality, stating that it was challenging to discern speakers’ voices clearly.
Likening the renovated chamber to a mere “conference room,” the Borno South Senator emphasized the need for corrective measures.
“This is not a chamber, it is like a conference room,” Ndume remarked, expressing his disappointment.
Furthermore, he criticized the seating arrangement, suggesting that senators faced difficulties while standing up or sitting down.
Corroborating Ndume’s observations, Senate President Godswill Akpabio acknowledged that the renovation contract was awarded during the previous administration.
However, Akpabio clarified that the project was overseen by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), not the National Assembly.
“This is not our contract, it was a contract that was awarded in the ninth senate,” Akpabio stated.
The Senate President advocated for the National Assembly to assume ownership of the complex instead of relying on the FCDA.
This incident follows a recent disagreement among lawmakers over the sitting arrangement in the refurbished Red Chamber.
