The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of Umaru Farouk Aminu as a full-time Commissioner representing North-West geopolitical zone in the National Pension Commission (PenCom).
The confirmation followed a satisfactory report by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.
In his report, Shekarau who represents Kano Central Senatorial district explained that the nominee was earlier screened by the Committee and found satisfactory to join the pension commission, saying the zone he was supposed to represent was still vacant.
According to him, the PenCom act made provision for the six geopolitical zones of the country to produce Commissioners.
“That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters on the confirmation of the nomination of Umaru Farouk Aminu for appointment as a full-time Commissioner representing the North-West geopolitical zone in the National Pension Commission,” he said.
Senators who contributed confirmed that there was no petition against the nominee saying he should be confirmed without delay.
Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who presided over Tuesday’s plenary in the absence of Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan confirmed the nominee.
