The delay allows for more detailed discussions with involved parties, including Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited officials, Central Bank of Nigeria representatives, and other relevant entities.
The investigation seeks to address issues related to the expenditure on refinery maintenance, allegations of overpayment to transporters, and the importation of substandard petroleum products. The committee has already completed preliminary investigations and engaged with ministries, departments, and agencies related to the sector.
Senator Bamidele stated that the decision to postpone followed thorough consultations with committee members and industry stakeholders. He emphasized that the delay was made in the national interest to ensure a more comprehensive and inclusive inquiry.
A new date for the public hearing will be announced to all stakeholders in due course. Bamidele assured that the postponement would allow for a more complete approach to tackling the challenges within the petroleum sector.
