EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the Senate, three local government areas in the states of Kwara and Niger contain terrorist enclaves.
This was a topic of discussion after the upper chamber had looked at a motion regarding the threat to the communities in Kaima, Baruten, and Borgu Local Government in the states of Kwara and Niger and the deteriorating security in Kainji Lake National Park.
Senator Sadiq Umar, the motion’s sponsor, claims that kidnapping and other types of criminal activity have become common in areas adjacent to Kainji Lake National Park, creating a palpable sense of terror in those areas.

“Many are leaving their villages and farms to seek refuge in the towns that will soon be threatened as well if nothing is done about this insecurity situation. In fact, some communities have started paying the criminals some sort of tax to be allowed to stay safe,” Umar said.
Therefore, the military has been ordered by the senate to launch a comprehensive offensive against criminals and bandits inside the Kainji Lake National Park and the designated settlements.
