Senate Set to Begin Screening of Seven New Ministerial Nominees from Tinubu

The Senate is scheduled to commence the screening of seven ministerial nominees announced by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday.

This follows President Tinubu’s earlier request to the Senate for confirmation of the new nominees. Shortly after their nomination last week, he reached out to the upper chamber, urging lawmakers to consider and confirm the seven individuals for ministerial appointments.

The nominees include Nentawe Yilwatda for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Muhammadu Dingyadi for Labour and Employment, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu for State Foreign Affairs, and Jumoke Oduwole for Industry, Trade, and Investment.

The remaining nominees are Idi Mukhtar Maiha for Livestock Development, Yusuf Ata for State Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Ahmad for State Education.

This confirmation request comes after President Tinubu reshuffled his cabinet, which involved the dismissal of five ministers, the reassignment of ten others, and the appointment of seven new ministers.

Those dismissed include Uju-Ken Ohanenye as Minister of Women Affairs, Lola Ade-John as Minister of Tourism, Tahir Mamman as Minister of Education, Abdullahi Gwarzo as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Jamila Ibrahim as Minister of Youth Development.

As part of the cabinet reshuffle, Yusuf Sununu was moved from Minister of State for Education to Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. Olatunji Alausa was reassigned as Minister of Education, and Bello Goronyo transitioned from Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation to Minister of State for Works.

Abubakar Momoh was relieved of his position as Minister of Niger Delta Development and reassigned as Minister of Regional Development. Uba Maigari Ahmadu moved from Minister of State for Steel Development to Minister of State for Regional Development.

Additionally, Doris Uzoka-Anite, previously the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, was reassigned as Minister of State for Finance to assist the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun. John Enoh, the Minister of Sports, was named the new Minister of State for Trade and Investment.

Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim was removed from his position as Minister of State for Police Affairs and reassigned as Minister of Women Affairs. Ayodele Olawande was elevated to Minister of Youth Development from his prior role as Minister of State for Youth Development, while Iziak Salako was reassigned as Minister of State for Health from Minister of State for Environment.
