The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions has decided to indefinitely suspend its investigation into the s£xual harassment allegations brought against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Udanghan.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the decision was announced by the Committee Chairman, Senator Bernard Imaseun, during the first hearing on Tuesday.
Senator Imaseun explained that both Senator Natasha and the Senate President’s wife have filed separate cases in court related to the matter. Consequently, the committee cannot proceed with the investigation due to the ongoing court proceedings.
The senate Committee hearing took a dramatic turn on Tuesday as a heated verbal exchange broke out between Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi of Ebonyi North and former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili.
The altercation unfolded during a session of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, where the committee was considering a fresh petition by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The discord began when Zubairu Yakubu, who attended the hearing with Ezekwesili and Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal counsel, Abiola Akiode, attempted to speak while Committee Chairman Neda Imaseun was still addressing the panel.
Yakubu was asked to mute his microphone, prompting Ezekwesili to intervene. Senator Nwaebonyi, serving as a witness for Senate President Godswill Akpabio, interrupted her, triggering the fiery exchange of words.
“Compose yourself and stop making noise,” Ezekwesili told Nwaebonyi. In anger, the senator fired back, “You’re a fool. What do you mean? Why are you talking to me like that? You’re an insult to womanhood.”
Ezekwesili responded, calling Nwaebonyi “a hooligan,” escalating the argument as committee members tried to restore order.
