Senator Abaribe Offers to Stand as Guarantor for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Abaribe made this remark while addressing journalists after a visit to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State.
He also urged President Bola Tinubu to heed the advice of the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and other stakeholders who have called for Kanu’s release.
Abaribe stated that releasing Kanu would help address criminal activities in the Southeast region.
He said: “I expect that the President will listen to his Attorney General and all of us who have been advocating for a resolution to the issues in the Southeast.

First, the insurgency, the Monday sit-at-home orders, and other challenges we are facing in the region. What we now see is that criminals and others promoting violence have hijacked the situation, using Nnamdi Kanu’s name to justify their despicable acts.
“We believe that President Tinubu, as a listening leader, will consider all the points presented to him through various channels and take the necessary action by releasing Nnamdi Kanu.
This move would put an end to the ongoing crisis in the Southeast and restore the region’s position as a hub of production in Nigeria.
“Kanu’s release is crucial for removing the obstacles that have hindered productivity in the Southeast.
We, therefore, continue to call on President Tinubu to act and are ready and willing to serve as guarantors for Kanu’s release.
This will allow life to return to normal in the Southeast and rid the region of criminals, kidnappers, cultists, and other dangerous elements who exploit Kanu’s name to justify their violence and criminal activities.”

Nnamdi Kanu has been detained since June 2021 when he was rearrested and subjected to extraordinary rendition from Kenya to Nigeria.
Following his return, the Court of Appeal in Abuja ordered his release, but the Nigerian government has since refused to comply with the ruling.
