Senator Abba Moro Flags Off Reconstruction of Otukpo-Obi-Oju Road in Benue

Senator Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader and representative of Benue South District, has officially launched the long-awaited construction of the 51km Otukpo-Obi-Oju Federal road, which has been in disrepair for years.

The road, a crucial link between the Igede-speaking people of Benue State and the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), passes through the local government areas of Otukpo, Obi, and Oju. The flag-off ceremony took place over the weekend at the Akpegede end of the road, with dignitaries and residents in attendance.

In his address, Senator Moro expressed gratitude to God for making the long-awaited project a reality, calling it a milestone and the fulfillment of a personal commitment to his constituents.

“This day is historic for us,” Moro said. “It is a personal sense of fulfillment for me to be the one to flag off the reconstruction of this road. For decades, the Otukpo-Obi-Oju road has been discussed, but it has remained an unrealized dream due to competing demands and limited resources.”

Moro emphasized that despite the skepticism of some, he remained determined to deliver the road for his people, driven by his internal motivation and commitment to improving the lives of his constituents. He also rejected detractors who have attempted to undermine his efforts.

“I don’t seek external validation for my work. My focus is on the future of our people and generations yet to come. Sadly, some have resorted to spreading malice and lies, hoping to undermine the progress we are making. But I am undeterred.”

Moro highlighted the contrast between the constructive goals of his administration and the petty distractions of a few critics who have used social media to spread falsehoods. He assured his supporters that his commitment to bettering the lives of his people was steadfast, and the reconstruction of the road was a significant step in that direction.

In their remarks, local leaders, including Chief Ezekiel Adaji, PDP State Chairman; Mr. Mike Audu, Minority Leader of the Benue State House of Assembly; Chief Chris Ijale, and others, praised Senator Moro for his exemplary leadership and dedication to the welfare of the Benue South District. They expressed their unwavering support for his efforts and promised to continue praying for his success.

The event culminated in the official handover of the road project to the contractor, Pees Investment Ltd., by the Second Class Chiefs of Igede land, HRH Dr. Chris Ijale and HRH Dr. Dan Ulegede, in the presence of representatives from the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBBRI).
