EKO HOT BLOG reports that in an intriguing development ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, it has been revealed that over 65 senators are throwing their weight behind former Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio in his bid to become the Senate President.
Imran Muhammad, a member of the All Progressives Party, made the disclosure on Friday via his Twitter handle, indicating a significant show of support for Akpabio’s aspirations.

Furthermore, Muhammad highlighted a potential alliance between Akpabio and Senator Barau Jibrin, who is being considered for the role of Deputy Senate President.
According to Muhammad, the senators supporting the Akpabio-Jibrin alliance have already demonstrated their commitment by formally endorsing the duo. “Over 65 senators were said to have aligned with the Akpabio/Jibrin alliance and had declared their support for them after signing off their commitment as proof they were in on the project,” he stated.
The race for leadership positions within the Nation’s lawmaking institution has intensified in recent weeks, with various contenders vying for prominent roles in the Senate. Among the notable figures competing for the Senate Presidency, Akpabio and Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia State, have emerged as top contenders.
With more than 60 percent of senators reportedly throwing their weight behind Akpabio, it is evident that his candidacy has garnered significant support within the Senate.
The alliance with Senator Barau Jibrin as Deputy Senate President appears to have resonated positively with a considerable number of lawmakers, as they have expressed their commitment to the cause.
