  • Senegal is the team to beat in AFCON

The African Cup of Nations is set to commence on the 9th of January, and with just a few days to the competition, expectations and hopes from fans of various participating nations, are high, as expected. From fans of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, to fans of the Egyptian football team, every football lover is praying to watch their team play in the final of the competition, and of course, win it. Sadly, not every team will lift the trophy, as only one team is expected to become victorious, come February 6, 2022. So, which team will end victors at the end of the day? Is it the Super Eagles of Nigeria?

The Super Eagles, as the Nigerian football team is called, have always been one of the favourites in previous competitions. They are still classified as one of the favourites though, but in Senegal, a lot of football fans, see potential champions.

The Senegalese national team have never lifted the African Cup of Nations, but this time around, with many talented players in the team, they may actually lift the trophy. They have a good team, and a good coach.

Senegal’s coach, Aliou Cisse, who has been with them since 2015, has built a steady and strong bond with his players, and their exploits in the last world cup in Russia, lays testimony to the strong bond. Among all the team participating in the competition, Senegal looks like the team that has enjoyed a bit of stability, managerial wise, and this will surely count for something.

Another thing going on well for the Senegalese national team, is the quality of players in the team. A team with a world class striker like Sadio Mane, is surely expected to offer serious goal threats. At the other end of the field, Senegal will be parading one of the hottest goal keeper at the moment, in Édouard Osoque Mendy of Chelsea. If these players live up to expectations, then this African Cup of Nations may be the first ever AFCON they will be winning.
