Seven Arraigned Over Alleged Theft, Damage of Property Worth N28 Million
The accused include Sunday Odeshola (15), Monday Ubah (16), and David Odeshola (45), who are charged with conspiracy, theft, and malicious damage. Four others—Kaman Rabiru (27), Lawal Shaibu (25), Nazid Abdullahi (27), and Ibrahim Khalid (25)—face charges of unlawfully receiving stolen items.
Inspector Lawrence Olu-Balogun, the prosecutor, told the court that the alleged crimes occurred between December 10 and December 17 at Ariwo Quarters, Owode Egbe, Abeokuta. He said the first three defendants broke into the home of Mr. Akinwale Azeez and stole an Eito Inverter machine worth ₦2 million, along with electrical wires, refrigerator compressors, and gas cooker burners, bringing the total value of stolen items to ₦28 million.
In addition, the prosecutor claimed that Sunday Odeshola and Monday Ubah caused damage to various household items, including an electric engine valued at ₦500,000, an iron entrance door worth ₦150,000, an aluminum window glass worth ₦50,000, and five refrigerators worth ₦1 million. The total damage was estimated at ₦1.7 million.
Rabiru, Shaibu, Abdullahi, and Khalid were charged with receiving stolen goods, including electrical wires, refrigerator compressors, and gas cooker burners.
Chief Magistrate Dr. B.O. Ilo granted bail to each defendant at ₦2 million, requiring one surety per defendant. The sureties must be registered bondsmen with the Ogun State Judiciary. The case was adjourned until January 10, 2025, for further hearing.
