A clash between members of the Skylo and Scorpion cults has reportedly claimed several lives in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the incident, however, said she could not confirm if there were casualties.
“It was a cult clash. But since we have not arrested anyone, we don’t have details of what transpired. I can’t confirm if anybody was killed. But very soon we are going to make arrests. The Commissioner of Police has deployed men in the area,” she said.
PUNCH Metro, however, gathered that the cult members, who were armed with axes and locally-made guns, shot continuously around Maternity area to Forestry checkpoint in Akpabuyo on Saturday till the early hours of Sunday.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident disrupted commercial activities in the area and some business premises were shut.
According to him, Scorpion members shot and butchered Skylo members, adding that “over five persons were gunned down during the clash, while property worth millions of naira was destroyed.”
