Sevilla Signs 3-Years Contract With Lopetegui As Coach

Less than a year after he was sacked from two of the most coveted posts in world football, Julen Lopetegui has been named the coach of Sevilla for the next three seasons.

Lopetegui was sacked as Spain coach on the eve of the 2018 World Cup following Real Madrid’s announcement then that he would replace Zidane who had resigned days after leading the club to a third straight Champions league title.

At Real Madrid, the 53-year-old barely lasted over 4 months as he was after a poor start to the season and a day after the humiliating 5-1 defeat by Barcelona.

He is set to be officially unveiled as Sevilla’s new coach on Wednesday, replacing Joaquin Caparros who announced that he would be stepping down at the end of the season.

Apart from the two high profile jobs, he boasts a rich CV still, with Lopetegui, a former Real Madrid goalkeeper, having also registered coaching stints at Rayo Vallecano and Porto.
