The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old sex worker, Riyanatu Musa, for allegedly stabbing a barman, Yohanna Musa, to death over a ₦200 debt in Yola.
According to Suleiman Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer, the incident stemmed from a disagreement regarding an unpaid balance for liquor.
Nguroje revealed that the suspect had purchased alcoholic drinks, including dry gin, popularly known as “Big Ben,” and another drink, “Yahoo,” from the deceased.
“She confessed to committing the crime, stating she had paid ₦1,500 but still owed ₦200. When the deceased demanded the balance, an argument ensued, escalating into a physical altercation during which she stabbed him in the chest with a knife,” Nguroje said.
Nguroje added that the barman succumbed to his injuries at the scene, leaving the community in shock.
In response to the incident, Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case to ensure justice is served.
The Commissioner also used the opportunity to urge residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts.
The police have assured the public that the suspect will face the full weight of the law upon completion of the investigation. Meanwhile, the tragic death of Yohanna Musa serves as a stark reminder of the need for community members to prioritize dialogue and lawful means in resolving disputes.
