The Presidential flag bearer of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the 2019, presidential elections, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has condemned the sexual harassment of female students emanating in public tertiary institutions.
This came after a BBC documentary revealed that female students were been sexually harassed by lecturers in tertiary institutions in West Africa.
Atiku described the act as psychologically abusive to young women.
The Presidential flag bearer condemned the act via a tweet on Monday.
Atiku said “I have just read the story on #SexForGrades across public tertiary institutions in many West African countries. This is unacceptable, and requires systemic strategies to put a deterrence to such behaviour.”
He noted that as a society such act should be not allowed to thrive. Adding that sound education would not thrive in such environment.
“As a society, we cannot allow a trend that is psychologically abusive to young women to thrive. In fact, that’s a direct opposite of what a sound educational system represents.”
