‘Shalanga Coordinator’ — Osinbajo Gets New Name After Inaugurating Toilet Campaign

Published

on

The vice president of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has inaugurated an advocacy called ‘Use the Toilet Campaign’ to put an end to open defecation in the country.

For the uninitiated, Shalanga is a Yoruba word that’s used to refer to the pit latrine system lavatory.

Following the Inauguration of ‘use the toilet campaign’ by vice president Nigerians have taken to social media to share their take on the campaign.

Many wonder why a man of intellect and foresight like the Vice president will be picked to head a base and condescending campaign geared towards imploring the citizenry against open defecation and to use the toilet when there are more germane national issue to be attended to.

They insinuated that the latest development only goes to reinforce the widely held perception by a large section of the public that the powers of the vice president have been whittled by the cabal in the presidency and hence has been reduced to attending to issues whose significance have no bearing on national discourse and are inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.

To this end, Nigerians who have irredeemable penchant for drawing humour even from the most serious issue have ceased the opportunity to deride the vice president over the campaign.

There is almost no political leader or even renowned clergy that has no name attributed him or her by Nigerians other than their real names.

However, Nigerians again, as usual, have come up with a new nickname for the VP.

A Nigerian woman identified with the moniker AyeMojubar on twitter, in her reaction to the new campaign refers to the VP as ‘Shalanga’ coordinator.

AyeMojubar chronicled the steep decline in the reputation and fortune of the VP. From starboy to tradermoni to Shalanga coordinator.
