Shallipopi Leaves Record Label, Dapper Music
Nigerian music star Crown Uzama, widely known as Shallipopi, has officially parted ways with Dapper Music, the label that helped launch his career in 2023.
Rumors had circulated regarding his exit from Dapper Music, the label instrumental in his rise to fame. A closer look at Shallipopi’s social media profiles reveals he has removed mentions of Dapper Music and unfollowed the label’s head, signaling a likely end to their professional relationship.

EKO HOT BLOG notes that these actions appear to confirm Shallipopi’s separation from the label. The split comes shortly after he founded his own label, Plutomania Records, which now features Zerry DL and Tega Boi as lead artists. This departure follows just months after fellow artist Seyi Vibez left Dapper Music as well.
In a separate development, Nigerian Afrobeats star Michael Adebayo Olayinka, known as Ruger, voiced frustrations about the Nigerian music industry. Ruger took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to express his dismay over the prominence of what he describes as “untalented” artists gaining popularity through heavy promotion.

Ruger lamented that some artists achieve fame through marketing, regardless of talent. He also criticized the reliance on autotune during live performances, particularly when artists speak on stage.
“The music scene has been hurting me ‘coz no matter how bad an artist is, once there’s money for hype, they blow up,” Ruger wrote. He continued, “And the autotune on the mic during performances? Tell your engineer to shut it off when you’re about to speak. Ruger doesn’t need that. Thank you.”
