Eko Hot Blog reports that Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, widow of the late Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, has criticized her late husband’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, for backing current governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in the upcoming November gubernatorial election in the state, labeling her as shameless.

Aiyedatiwa, who was formerly Akeredolu’s deputy, was sworn in on December 27, 2023, following the death of his former boss.

Before Akeredolu’s death, internal wrangling had severed his relationship with Aiyedatiwa, bordering on alleged disloyalty of the then deputy governor, which led to the disbandment of his aides.

The State Assembly, through the backing of the governor, also attempted to impeach Aiyedatiwa, even though the details of the duo’s quarrel remained sketchy till Akeredolu’s death.

Taking to her Instagram page on Monday, Betty shared a picture of Akeredolu’s niece wearing a cap with the inscription, “I am lucky.”

Displeased with Funke’s support for Aiyedatiwa, Betty wrote, “Behold the face of Aketi’s niece, Funke Akeredolu Aruna, the former deputy chief protocol to Aketi, shamelessly parades as ‘I am lucky’ Bloody serpent! Time will tell if she is truly lucky!”

This outburst has, however, generated outrage on her comment session as many believe she should be mourning her husband and not engaging in a fight with anyone.

Some followers also appealed to her to maintain her calm on issues relating to the election.

Meanwhile, ahead of the governorship  of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Edema, a former commissioner representing the state on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has said the aspersion being cast on the integrity of the governor is not good for his image, the ruling APC, and the state government.

Edema, in a statement signed by the media adviser of his campaign organisation, Olabanji Orogbemi, insisted that the governor should clear the air over the police report on the governor’s certificate which has gone viral in the state.

According to LEADERSHIP, Orogbemi in the statement issued on Sunday said the campaign organisation was worried that the governor has not defended himself since the police report went viral at the weekend.

According to him, “From the findings of the said Police Report, it was discovered that Ikosi High School, Ketu, Lagos State was established in 1980 and had its first admission of students in January 1980.

“Looking at the register of the school from 1979-1982, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s name was not listed in the said register during the period under review. That the school was accredited to present students for the WASSCE examination in the year 1985.”

Edema said, “Some of the questions bothering the mind of the people of Ondo State is whether the school presented candidates for the WASSCE examination in the year 1981, 1983, and 1984 preceding the year 1985 when the school authorities confirmed to the police that they presented their first set of students for the WASSCE examination.’’
