Shehu Sani Questions Feasibility Of TUC’s Ambitious N200,000 Minimum Wage Proposal

  • The TUC proposes a raise in the minimum wage to N200,000 in response to the removal of fuel subsidy.

  • Former Senator Shehu Sani reacts, stating that the proposal is unrealistic as many states are still not paying the current minimum wage.

  • The TUC calls for consequential adjustments to the Cost of Living Allowance and demands commitment from state governors to enforce the new wage by June 2023.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has responded to the proposal put forth by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to increase the National Minimum Wage from N30,000 to N200,000 in light of the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.

The TUC, in a joint statement by its President Comrade Festus Osifo and Secretary-General Comrade Nuhu Abba Toro, requested consequential adjustments to the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA), including provisions for feeding, transport, housing, a petrol allowance, and a tax holiday for workers earning below N200,000 or 500 USD per month.

The union is also calling for all state governors to commit to implementing the new wage by the end of June 2023.
