EKO HOT BLOG reports that a notable Islamic cleric, Sheikh Misbaudeen Ibrahim Az-zaytunni, has blamed the rise of immorality in society on the failure to punish evildoers.
Sheikh Az-zaytunni stated this during the 2022 edition of the public Ramadan lecture tagged “Stable Muslim Homes: The Bedrock of Societal Reformation,” organized by the Muslim community of Lagos State University of Education, Michael Otedola Campus, Epe.
Sheikh Az-zaytunni, who was the Guest Lecturer on the programme, emphasized that the place of discipline and punishment must not be downplayed among the core principles of raising a Muslim family. Punishment, he said, is permissible in Islam but without the infliction of physical injuries and battery.
“Islam doesn’t permit battery of children in the guise of punishment. The lack of punishment gives rise to the spread of evil across every fabric of the society which has spiralling effects on the State, Nation and the world at large,” he said.
Speaking further, Sheikh Az-zaytunni charged parents to imbibe the teachings of Islam to promote the existence of a morally upright family which in turn contributes immensely to nation-building.
Az-zautunni bemoaned the spate of young people from various families who have taken up an internet scam popularly called yahoo-yahoo as a vocation. This, he said, has subsisted due to the poor family values from parents and inadequate funding for the teaching profession.
“The teacher has become the hallmark of all forms of moral upbringing which is wrong and this is due to negligence from the parents,” he said.
He noted further that every Muslim family should be built on the solid pillars of knowledge, fear of God and love as propagated by the Prophet Muhammad SAW and his wife Khadijah and then Adam and Eve. He, however, stressed that love without knowledge is disastrous.
“Love without knowledge in marriage becomes blind in the long run and destroys the family. The Muslim family must exhibit some strong foundation which is the ideal thing, it breeds stability,” he said.
Sheikh Az-zaytunni also stated that the effective Islamic curriculum ideal for the survival of every family has been threatened by secularism.
He, therefore, hinged the adequate upbringing of children from home on the resolve of parents, teachers and religious leaders to live a responsible life as good examples and role models.
“Ronaldo, Davido, Zazu-Zeh crooner and others have become role models for children in the modern-day Nigerian society compared to the ideal role model, Prophet Muhammad SAW,” Sheikh Az-zaytunni said.
Sheikh Az-zaytunni, who wasn’t oblivious of the fact that parents across the various religious faiths have failed in adequately guiding their wards, stressed the need to mentor their children from home through inspiring lectures on how to build an ideal family.
He also averred that the propagation of the knowledge of history to teach the decent and the wrong deeds of noteworthy personalities in the past, especially in the Holy Quran which is deeply rooted in history based on every single surah, must be practised.
