Shelve Planned Protest, APC Governors Plead

The Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) has called on Nigerians to reconsider the planned protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the organisation affiliated with the All Progressive Congress (APC) made this appeal following a closed-door meeting of its governors in Abuja.

The PGF urged the people of Nigeria to focus on the administration’s policy on development and alignment.

Chairman of the Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, spoke on behalf of the group, emphasizing that the timing for such demonstrations is not appropriate given the current challenges facing the nation.

“We think it is not wise at this moment for any demonstration by any group of persons be it in whatever guise,” Uzodimma stated.

He highlighted the numerous issues currently confronting Nigeria, including insecurity, the struggle to establish a national minimum wage, food security concerns, and efforts to overcome the ongoing economic recession.

The governor also urged young Nigerians to resist being incited into creating disorder.

“Already, Nigerians have suffered a lot; the global economic recession, the insecurity in Nigeria, the political tension occasioned by instigations and campaign of calumny by opposition parties, the social media attacks on various policies of government,” he noted.

Uzodimma extended an invitation to those advocating for protests to engage in dialogue with the government.

“We invite all of them to sit down with us in a room so we can discuss and agree on the issues, what they are and proffer solutions,” he said, expressing the Forum’s commitment to the country’s unity and the well-being of its citizens.

The governor reiterated the PGF’s unwavering support for President Tinubu and his policies. “We remain committed to the support we are giving President Bola Tinubu, our President and the leader of our party and we are in support of all his policies; economic policies and all the reforms he has embarked.”

Uzodimma concluded by appealing to Nigerians to exercise patience as the government works to alleviate the economic difficulties currently being experienced across the country.
