Vice President Kashim Shettima revealed on Tuesday that President Bola Tinubu ordered the release of minors who were facing treason charges, citing humanitarian reasons for the decision.
Shettima explained that, despite the presence of video and photographic evidence of some protesters’ actions — including footage allegedly uploaded by the individuals themselves — the President chose leniency, viewing the young individuals as deserving of a second chance.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Shettima, speaking after receiving the minors at the Presidential Villa following the Attorney General’s dismissal of charges, highlighted the extensive losses incurred during the protests. He noted that Nigeria suffered over N300 billion in economic damages, primarily due to destruction of private property and disruptions in business activities.
“President Tinubu, as the father of the nation, has given these young men an opportunity to rebuild themselves and become productive citizens for a better Nigeria,” Shettima stated.
He advised the youths to refrain from violence and warned against being used for destructive purposes, urging them to embrace responsible conduct moving forward.
Shettima also appealed to political leaders across the nation, regardless of party affiliation, to focus on national unity and work together to rehabilitate the released youths.
“What unites us as Nigerians is far greater than what divides us. Let us come together to support the reintegration of these young individuals into society,” he urged, calling on governors and elected officials to assist in their rehabilitation.
