EKO HOT BLOG reports that however, he was unceremoniously removed from his position following a fallout between President Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice President Atiku.

After his departure from the presidency, Ayati was appointed Chairman of the Zakibiam Relief Committee under then-Governor George Akume of Benue State. In this capacity, he oversaw the distribution of essential relief items to thousands of displaced Tiv people in 2003, following the Zakibiam massacre.

Ahangba Ayati, a family member, confirmed the death, revealing that Ayati passed away on Saturday. Describing him as a humble and easygoing man, Ahangba noted that Ayati had retired from active politics to focus on his businesses and lead a quiet life.

Ayati hailed from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. The family has promised to announce burial arrangements in due course.
