The scholarship awards were presented at The Care People Foundation’s annual carnival for the physically challenged and motherless babies, which was held at KM 15, Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, Adjacent Technical University Hostel, Ibadan, on Sunday, December 11, 2022.
The foundation’s founder, Rev. Paul Tunde Tioluwani (Lesekese), announced that the 2022 awards were in association with a Canada-based charity, the Sholape Animashawun Foundation.
Rev. Tioluwani noted that all of the beneficiaries are higher institution students who are less privileged.
“The scholarship award being given is actually more than N1 million. When we combine with Sholape Animashawun Foundation, the scholarship is actually 17 in number,” he said.
“The Care People Foundation is giving out 12, Sholape Animashawun Foundation from Canada is giving out five. All of them are higher institutions students; some of them have disabilities, some of them are blind, some of them are lame, and some of them have issues with finance. That was the yardstick for selection.
“Some of them are from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, some of them from University of Ilorin, Kwara State, some of them from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, the University of Lgaos, University of Benin, University of Ibadan, Federal College of Education, Osiele, and so on.”
Afterward, the cleric invited the founder of the Sholape Animashawun Foundation, Alhaji Semiu Animashaun, to present the cheques to the scholars.
The Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Culture and Tourism, Akeem Ademola Ige, who represented Alhaji Animashaun, said he had great confidence and trust in The Care People Foundation to only award people on merit.
He noted that Alhaji Animashaun had wished to be there, but he could not make it due to circumstances beyond his control.
“This year, about three months ago, the man I’m representing; that is Alhaji Semiu Animashawun in Canada was here, while I joined him to do screening for the few selected beneficiaries of this scholarship, handled by our Reverend father. He said he would have loved to be here again, but he couldn’t make it. That is why I’m here to represent him at this event,” the governor’s aide said.
“The founder of this center was singlehandedly identified out of many NGOs that are doing this type of programme and he was highly honoured.
“Personally, I said, I’ve witnessed where they screened the beneficiaries of this scholarship award and you would see that the man did it with fear of God and that people that are chosen were selected on merit. That’s the reason why Mr. Semiu Animashawun continues to have confidence in The Care People Foundation.”
Ige congratulated the beneficiaries and admonished others who could not benefit this time that their time would soon come.
He thereafter presented the cheques to the beneficiaries.
The first beneficiary was a blind student, Anifowose Adesola of the University of Lagos.
Other Sholape Animashawun Foundation’s scholarship fund beneficiaries are Bakare Zainab of the University of Ibadan, Julius Funmilayo of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Bolu Adeniyi of 1-Con University, Osogbo, and Sokeye Pelumi of Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Professor and Mrs. Adeyemi were also called to the podium to present cheques for The Care People Foundation’s scholarship awards.
The beneficiaries include Adelasoye Victor of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Olatunji Oyindamola of Kwara State University (KWASU), Isibor Osemudiamen of the University of Benin, Ajala Adesola of the Joint Professional Training & Support, Ibadan, Itotoi Favour of the University of Benin, and Oyekunle Temiloluwa of the University of Lagos.
Others are Ayomide Olorunsogo of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Banjo Femi Peace of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Akinwunmi Ebunoluwa of Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Akinola Akinyemi of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Adedeji Esther Olamide of University of Ibadan, Epe Campus.
Earlier, The Care People Foundation founder narrated the NGO’s breakthroughs. He disclosed that the foundation has trained more than seven graduates, with two currently in the higher institution.
He also stated that the organisation has given out over 200 scholarship awards to tertiary institution students.
“Last year, I told you of one of our outstanding graduate; Lamide Olowere who is now a civil engineer and currently works as a soldier with the Nigeria Army,” Rev. Tioluwani said.
“Today, I have another good news of one of our orphanage children; Timothy Ojelere who is a fresh Higher National Diploma (HND) graduate of The Polytechnic Ibadan. He got married in November of this year and happened to be the first to marry in our orphanage.
“In today’s event, we intend to distribute free brand new wheel chairs, sewing machines, grinding machines and bags of rice and among others.”
The foundation’s founder also used his opening remarks to appeal to the rich in society to remember the poor and vulnerable during this festive period.
“As the election year approaches, Nigerians needs to pray against military coup that may undermine the election,” he added.
At Sunday’s carnival, the foundation donated ten new wheelchairs to lame people, including children.
The foundation also donated five sewing machines, two grinding machines, several bags of rice, groundnut oil, and many valuable items to vulnerable people.
Besides the generous donations, disabled children at the carnival enjoyed themselves through music and dance.
