Siasia Advocates For Nigerian Coaches, Calls On Eguavoen To Resign

As the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) considers hiring a foreign coach for the Super Eagles, former national team coach Samson Siasia has argued that the country does not need a foreigner at the helm.

Siasia, who previously managed Nigeria’s U-20 and U-23 teams, also urged his former teammate, Austine Eguavoen, to officially step down as interim coach and concentrate on his primary role as the NFF’s technical director.

Rejecting the idea of another foreign coach, Siasia stated, “We don’t need a foreign coach because they won’t bring anything new. We have enough talented coaches here who can do the job.”

Although Eguavoen successfully led the Super Eagles to qualification for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, the NFF has yet to clarify his future with the team as the World Cup qualifiers approach.

Siasia believes Eguavoen should make a choice between continuing as a coach or focusing solely on his technical director position with the NFF.

“As for Austin Eguavoen’s future with the Super Eagles, I will suggest that we wait a while to see how the team will be. It is a very young team. Eguavoen has a job already as the technical director. He should resign as Super Eagles manager and concentrate on his job. He cannot hold two positions at the same time. He should actually decide on which one to hold and leave the other,” he was quoted as saying.
