Tunji Alausa has joined Sanwo-Olu to commission a landmark Sickle Cell Care Centre at LASUTH.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Dr. Tunji Alausa, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, has joined prominent Lagos State officials, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to inaugurate the new Sickle Cell Care Centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

The inauguration of the centre, which marked a significant step towards combating one of Nigeria’s most pressing health issues, held on Friday, June 7, 2024.
The event also witnessed the presence of Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, HE Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on SDGs, and Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Alausa underscored the gravity of Sickle Cell disease in Nigeria, noting that approximately 150,000 babies are born with the condition annually.
He highlighted the disease as one of the most significant non-communicable diseases (NCDs) affecting Nigerians both domestically and abroad.
The newly established multi-bed care centre is set to function as a comprehensive facility for children and adolescents suffering from Sickle Cell disease.
It will provide essential treatment and support services, helping families manage the challenging disease more effectively.

Dr. Alausa praised the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, for its unwavering commitment to enhancing healthcare access across the nation, particularly for those afflicted with Sickle Cell disease.
“Millions of Nigerians carry the gene, and the government is dedicated to ensuring they receive proper and safe healthcare,” he emphasized.
The Sickle Cell Care Centre at LASUTH, generously donated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs), exemplifies the joint efforts of Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire and Lagos State in advancing President Tinubu’s healthcare mandate and vision.
