Personal Assistant on New Media to the President, Bashir Ahmad, on Sunday claimed that a significant number of the abducted students of Government Science School, Kankara, in Katsina State, have been rescued.

Ahmad disclosed this on Twitter last night but did not give a specific figure of the freed students.

“A significant number of the students have been rescued. Praying for the immediate safe return of the rest,” he tweeted.

The President’s aide also said the Katsina State Government would issue a formal statement on the development. “I am sure the Katsina State Government will issue a statement in that regard,” he added.

He also disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai is in Kankara, Katsina State as the Army, Police and other security agencies intensify efforts to rescue all the abducted students.

Eko Hot Blog had reported on Sunday that Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari told a federal government delegation led by the Minister of Defence, Major-General Bashir Magashi (rtd.) that 333 students are still missing.

“Based on the available record we have, we are still searching for 333 students through either the forest or their parents to ascertain the actual number that has been kidnapped.

“We are still counting because more are coming out from the forest and we are calling through the numbers those parents that have phone numbers to find out whether or not their children have gone back home.

“We as a government we are yet to be contacted by any group or person responsible for the kidnap of the students,” he said.
