Nigerian singer, Simi, has parted ways with her longtime record label, X3M Music. The Lagos-based music label, announced the “Jamb Question” singer’s departure yesterday, saying it was due to the expiration of the newly married musician’s recording contract.
In a statement signed by A&R Executive, Vincent Nwanze, the label made it known that both parties decided not to renew the contract that kept them together for the past five years.
Simi, in the last few years of working under X3M Music, has become a recognised talent in her own right, combining her music writing skills with her velvety-voiced tunes along with her production skills.
From releasing the single, “Tiff” upon signing in 2014, earning her a Headies nomination, Simi has become a household name following her well-received debut album for the label in September 2017.
The album won the Album of the Year in gong at The Headies Awards for 2018 while her latest album, ‘Omo Charlie Champagne’ which turned out to be her last for the label, was released barely two weeks ago, precisely on April 19, 2019.
“We only sign artistes that we love and believe in. We know our taste in music is rather different, but we only sign talents who meet that taste. Fortunately, we have been able to find millions of music lovers here and abroad, who share similar tastes, as is evident in the success of all the artistes we have worked with, including Simi who is without any doubt one of the biggest music talents in the country today,” the statement by X3M Music reads in parts.
X3M Music is, like X3M Ideas, part of the X3M Group founded in 2008 by Steve Babaeko, a renowned advertising executive and music enthusiast.
