Sit-at-home: Enugu, Anambra Gov’t Order Schools to Open on Saturdays

Ekohotblog reports that the South Eastern states of Anambra and Enugu have extended their school days to Saturday owing to the interruption of educational and other activities caused by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) sit-at-home’s order to press for the unconditional release of its arrested leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Despite the fact that IPOB has suspended the Monday sit-at-home, the order is still being enforced by unknown gunmen who are purportedly sympathetic to its cause.’

According to a recently disclosed government letter, Saturday courses will begin in Anambra on October 30, 2021.

Titled, ‘Anambra State Government Approves Saturday as School Day.’ The memo reads “I am directed by the Executive Secretary to inform you that the Anambra State Govt. has approved Saturdays as school days in place of Mondays.

“All HMs are to notify teachers, pupils as well as parents about the new development. Quality Assurance supervision and every other supervisions henceforth will hold on Saturdays.

“Every game permission for absent from classes on Saturdays must be addressed to the Executive Chairman ASUBBEB through the Executive Secretary following due process. Saturday classes will commence on 30/10/21 ie next week.”

Don Adinuba, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, clarified on Sunday, October 25, that “the measure is to enable our pupils to learn as much as possible in a safe environment.”

Enugu and some other South-East states which could not immediately confirm, are said to have similarly switched the school day from Monday to Saturday.
