Updated: One Dies, Six Rescued As Building Collapses In Lagos
Tragedy struck in Lagos as a three-story building collapsed at 20, Freeman Street, Lagos Island at about 3 am, with six people rescued and one person confirmed dead.
The occupants were fast asleep as the building came crashing down and the immediate neighbours swung into action and alerted the emergency team.
On arrival, the first victim that was recovered by the emergency team was a male child who could not withstand the situation and was confirmed dead on the spot.
However, other six other occupants of the building were rescued alive and medical treatment was given to them by Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASSMBUS), while the casualty was deposited at a morgue.
Buildings collapsing has been in the news for a while but has recently be toned down a bit with government taking the lead in ensuring that all buildings with the threat of collapse are pulled by the government agencies in charge of such.
More should be done in sensitizing the masses on the telltale signs of a building collapsing and simple common sense approach to it so that more lives will not be cut short abruptly in the event of a building collapsing.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) came on the scene just in time to rescue the victims.
“Nine to 10 people are suggested to be living in the building. Efforts are on to rescue the remaining people,” said Southwest Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Ibrahim Farinloye.
