Skiing Goes Wrong As Jet Ski Rider Drowns In Lekki-Ikoyi Inland Waterways

Skiing went wrong for a jet ski rider as he drowned in the Lekki-Ikoyi Inland Waterways.

Eko Hot Blog reports that tragedy struck on Wednesday evening when a yet-to-be-identified adult male, drowned while riding on a jet ski on Lekki-Ikoyi inland waterways, Lagos Island, Lagos State.

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred at about 6 pm.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the fatal accident.

In a statement late Wednesday night, the LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the victim drowned due to “overspeeding.”

Oke-Osanyintolu, who noted that the rider has sunk too deep to be rescued, stated that efforts were ongoing by relevant personnel to retrieve the body.

“It was discovered by the agency’s responders on duty at the lekki base that an unidentified male adult drowned at the Lekki-Ikoyi inland waterways as a result of overspeeding while he was riding on a jet ski at the said location,” the statement reads.
