A student of the Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State has been killed by her lover, a Nigerian soldier, over infidelity claims.
The student, Jennifer Ugadu, was in her 200 level in the university’s Faculty of Education before she was brutally shot dead by the soldier, James Matol.
Police authorities in Bayelsa, in a statement on Tuesday, said that Ugadu’s body was discovered on July 13 in her room after her friend stumbled on a WhatsApp chat in which the soldier admitted killing the student.

According to the police, Matol had vowed to commit suicide after killing her.

The statement also confirmed that the slain student was last seen with her soldier boyfriend on July 11 before she was shot dead in her apartment.
Reacting to the incident, the Nigerian Army has said that it has began investigation, adding that the army has zero tolerance for criminality.
According to Army Spokesman, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement, said the Army will investigate the incident and if found wanton, the officer will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
