Three people were killed and many others injured when a flour-laden truck crashed into shops at Utu Etim Ekpo, the headquarters of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to a resident, Gabriel Akpan, the accident occurred around 8 p.m. on Monday. Akpan reported that the driver was allegedly attempting to flee from Nigerian Army personnel stationed at a roadblock at Nkwot Ikot Ebo on the Iwukem–Etim Ekpo–Abak Road.

“The truck, coming from the Iwukem direction towards Abak, was flagged down by soldiers at the roadblock. However, the driver ignored the signal to stop,” Akpan explained.
“The soldiers pursued and overtook the truck, but the driver still refused to stop and sped down a slope towards the roundabout, losing control in the process.”
Eno Umanah, a motorcyclist near the council secretariat, provided further details.
He recounted that the driver, in a bid to escape the soldiers, lost control of the vehicle, which then veered off the road and plowed into several makeshift shops near the motor park. “The truck crashed into the shops, killing the unsuspecting victims instantly,” Umanah added.
The tragic incident has raised concerns among residents about the dangers of high-speed pursuits and the need for improved road safety measures.
