ISWAP is a faction of the Boko Haram sect that launches deadly attacks within North-East Nigeria, Lake Chad, Niger, and northern Cameroon.
The jihadist fighters specialise in launching attacks on military formations that have led to the deaths of many frontline soldiers and other security operatives in Nigeria.
For years on end, communities and villages in the beleaguered North East have been at receiving end of a devastating insurgency war which has now gone on for over a decade, leaving properties worth millions destroyed, thousands of civilians dead and over two million displaced.
Despite spending billions of dollars fighting against the insurgents over the years, Abuja has yet to win the ongoing war against terrorism.
