Eko Hot Blog reports that in response to the shocking assassination of Onikoro of Koro, Oba Segun Aremu, and the abduction of his wife and two neighbors, security agents, including soldiers and policemen, have taken over Koro town in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. The town has been under heightened security measures to safeguard residents and prevent further incidents.

A resident, who chose to remain anonymous for security reasons, disclosed that a significant presence of security personnel, armed with an armored personnel carrier, has been established in the town.

The security forces are conducting stop-and-search operations on residents to ensure the safety and security of the community.

“Policemen and soldiers have come here to the town. They are present here, fully armed with their armored personnel carrier, and have commenced a stop-and-search operation on residents to ensure that there is security,” the source mentioned. “They are not harassing any passersby; they are just here to prevent the recurrence of the tragedy. They have been joined by local vigilante groups and hunters in town and they have been combing the forests in the town to catch bandits or kidnappers that might be nesting in the forest and possibly rescue their victims.”

The late monarch’s immediate brother had earlier revealed that the town had been plagued by bandit attacks for years, leading many residents to abandon their farms to avoid such incidents.

The Kwara State Police Command, through its spokesperson, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, issued a statement on Friday, assuring the public of an ongoing investigation into the tragic incident.

Toun stated, “The command had begun an investigation and promised to arrest and prosecute the monarch’s killers.”

The security forces, local vigilante groups, and hunters are collaborating to conduct thorough searches in the town, particularly in the surrounding forests, to apprehend criminals and rescue any potential victims.
