Soludo Predicts The Actions Nnamdi Kanu Would Take In The Event Of His Release

  • Governor Soludo is trying to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

  • Soludo thinks that Kanu can distinguish between real freedom fighters and criminals in the South East.

  • The governor wants to discuss security in the South East and Kanu’s release with President Buhari.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has revealed what the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will do if he is released from detention.

Kanu has been in the Department of State Services (DSS) custody since his arrest and repatriation to Nigeria from Kenya in 2021.

There have been a series of controversies over the arrest and moves to release the separatist. However, on Monday, Governor Soludo said he is making concerted efforts to secure the Kanu’s freedom.

According to him, if released, Kanu will help to distinguish between genuine freedom fighters and criminals in the South East as everyone has turned into freedom fighters overnight, committing crimes in disguise.

This online media platform understands that Soludo remarked yesterday during a quarterly statewide briefing meant to inform the Anambra people of his activities in government.

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) disclosed that he had booked a session with President Muhammadu Buhari and was only waiting for an appointment, where he hopes to discuss the issue of security in the South East and the release of Kanu.

It could be recalled that Soludo had earlier urged the federal government to release Kanu. The governor pledged to stand as surety for the Biafra agitator if the federal government found it hard to release him unconditionally.

In a swift reply, however, the Attorney general and minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, said that Soludo only made a statement but has not applied to the court or his office about Kanu’s release.

In his address yesterday, however, Soludo said he hoped to meet President Buhari and speak with him about releasing Kanu.

He stressed that if released, Kanu would help him to intervene in areas where people use secessionist agitation as a means to perpetuate criminality.

“On the issue of Nnamdi Kanu, his release does not mean that insecurity will be eliminated. The call is in the best interest of the South East as a whole.

“He (Kanu) was saddened by the level of crime associated with the agitation when I visited him in prison. He called it an abomination.

“Everyone has now become a freedom fighter, using it as an avenue to commit a crime. The truth is that if he is released, he will be able to distinguish between genuine freedom fighters and criminals.

“What is still holding him back is a political issue. I am awaiting confirmation of appointment with the President to hand him the letter officially,” Soludo said.
