President Bola Tinubu signed bills establishing development commissions for Nigeria’s South-East and North-West regions to address environmental challenges and infrastructure needs.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Bola Tinubu has signed into law bills establishing development commissions for Nigeria’s South-East and North-West regions.
This online media platform reports that the South-East Development Commission bill, sponsored by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, representing the Bende federal constituency in Abia State, was approved by both the Senate and the House of Representatives before being forwarded to the President for assent.
The commission will receive funding to implement various projects within the South-East geopolitical zone, including addressing environmental challenges such as erosion and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads in Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, and Anambra states.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu thanked President Tinubu for signing the bill into law. He emphasized that the commission will play a significant role in “rehabilitating Igbo land” and promoting unity among its people.
South-East North-West Development Commissions
President Tinubu also signed the bill establishing the North-West Development Commission.
Jibrin Barau, Deputy Senate President and sponsor of the bill, stated that the legislation’s approval is a “testament” to Tinubu’s “commitment to addressing the challenges facing the North-West geopolitical zone and all parts of the country.”
