The victory puts the Red Devils at 4 points ahead of Merseyside club and arch rivals, Liverpool in the premier league table as both teams battle for a place in the top 4 of the English premier league.
Chelsea on the other hand, were able to avoid defeat to Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge, coming back from a 0-1 deficit to draw level on 2-2.
