We Were Not Involved In Sowore’s Arrest – DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied involvement in the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Sowore, who was detained on Sunday morning, revealed on his official X account that he had been held by the Nigerian Immigration Service, which also confiscated his passport.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that a senior DSS official, speaking to Daily Trust, clarified that Sowore’s name had been removed from the agency’s watchlist, and the DSS was not involved in the arrest, countering widespread media reports implicating the service.

The official emphasized that the DSS would take legal action if necessary in any of its future operations.

“Our new DG is determined to reform and reposition the Department of State Service (DSS) as a responsible and responsive organisation.

“In that case, I want to state categorically that our officers were not involved in his arrest, so, Nigerians should discard the fake news of the DSS’ involvement.”
