He condemned the detention of Isese devotee Adegbola Abdulazeez, who was arrested and charged with defamation for speaking out against the Emir of Ilorin.

Soyinka said that Abdulazeez’s detention was an act of religious intolerance and that it should not be tolerated.

He called on Muslims to embrace tolerance and respect for other faiths.

“Isese is a tradition that has been around for centuries,” Soyinka said. “It is not going away. Muslims should learn to live with it.”
