Speed Darlington: ‘You Can’t Sing Against Oppressors and Still Be an Oppressor’ – Deji Adeyanju Blasts Burna Boy

Human rights activist, Comrade Deji Adeyanju, has criticized the alleged illegal detention of controversial singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington.

Adeyanju claimed that the detention was orchestrated by award-winning musician Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy.

EKO HOT BLOG gathered that; Comrade Deji Adeyanju twitted a string of tweets on his official X handle at exactly 9:03 AM stating;

“We are now involved in the Speed Darlington matter. We will do everything to get him freed. Nobody should be arrested by the police for expressing their views or opinions. We urge the authorities to stop the clampdown on freedom of speech in Nigeria.”

His next tweet concerning the issue, he threw a subtle shade at the popular musician, Burna Boy, who allegedly orchestrated the arrest;

“You can’t be singing against oppressors and still be an oppressor.”

Furthermore, he announced that; “We have just located Speed Darlington and we are working on getting him freed. The attack of freedom of expression in Nigeria must stop.”

“We just spent the last 30mins with Speed Darlington and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos Friday last week, moved around and eventually brought to Abuja and has been in detention since then. Petition against him was written by Burna Boy we can confirm,” he added

EKO HOT BLOG recalls that the controversial musician, Speed Darlington was arrested by the members of the Nigeria Police Force at his residence, on Saturday, October 5, 2024 following a petition filed against him on the account of an alleged slanderous claim by the controversial singer, who appears to throw subtle dig at Burna Boy following the widespread allegations labelled against P Diddy, on a multiple count charge ranging from, an alleged gay-forceful entry, sex trafficking, racketeering, transportation to engage in prostitution, violence against women, women trafficking, etc.

This has since sparked a wider-angle of reactions from netizens across social media. While some appears to support the activist’s move to rescue Speed Darlington from detention, others claimed that the controversial singer should be made to pay for careless talks.

One X user said; “Defamation is not freedom of speech!!!!”

Another reacted saying; Speed Darlington’s detention reflects the serious repercussions of his public feud with Burna Boy, highlighting the influence of celebrity conflicts.

Another roared saying; “Defamation is a crime!!!!” while tagging the full video of the controversial musician along with his comment.

Another commented saying; “He should just apologies profusely to @burnaboy for defamatory comments he made about him and also for insulting his mother…. we all like @SpeedDarlingTV but he went overboard and kudos to u Deji for being selfless in your work….”

However, a few commenters rally behind the controversial singer, stating that;

“keeping someone incommunicado for three days without charging them to court is illegal and oppressive, even if he defamed burnaboy, Nigerian police needs to do better.”

Another said; what exactly did he do to burna boy why didn’t burna just sue him rather arresting him like a common criminal. . .nawa oooo”

In the coming days, EKO HOT BLOG will report further developments concerning the petition and detention of Speed Darlington to keep you up to speed.
