A former presidential candidate for the Young Progressive Party (YPP) at the 2019 general elections, Kingsley Moghalu, has said that the spiritual warfare approach proposed by the Nigerian Army to tackle Boko Haram will not yield result.
Moghalu on Wednesday took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to share his opinion on the issue.
“I am a Christian. I pray. We shouldn’t mix religion with secular governance, military security and terrorism. America is the strongest military nation in the world. They don’t pray more than Nigerians, but their soldiers are MOTIVATED, TRAINED and EQUIPPED to conquer terror.
“None of these three things are present in the Nigerian military in its war with Boko Haram, so a resort to clergy, or confusing the necessary psychological operations (“psy ops”) necessary to weaken BH by engaging their ideology, with “spiritual warfare” won’t solve our problem.
“We too often resort to religion and spirituality as excuses instead of doing what we rationally and physically should. The Bible says God will bless the work of our hands! It got so absurd we heard of billions paid to “prayer contractors” at a time in this country. Lord of mercy!”
The Nigerian Army had on Monday, September 30, hosted a programme with the theme: “Countering Insurgency and Violent Extremism in Nigerian through Spiritual Warfare”.
The programme has so far generated a lot of backlash from Nigerians across social media platforms.
