Sporting Lisbon have dismissed coach Joao Pereira just over a month after he took over from Ruben Amorim, appointing Rui Borges as the new head coach on Thursday.
Pereira was appointed following Amorim’s departure to English giants Manchester United, but his tenure has been cut short due to Sporting’s sudden dip in form.

The Lisbon club, who had a perfect record in the Primeira Liga before Pereira’s arrival, lost their top spot in the league to Benfica after a 0-0 draw with Gil Vicente last weekend.
Pereira also struggled in his first four matches, suffering defeats in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Rui Borges, 43, previously managed Vitoria Guimaraes, leading them to a sixth-place finish in the league and a second-place spot in the UEFA Conference League group stage.
