In a deeply moving display of faith and tradition, St. Theresa Catholic Parish, Epe, brought the story of Christ’s suffering and death to life with a powerful reenactment of the Passion of Christ as part of its Holy Week Triduum activities.

Ekohotblog reports that the event, led by the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON), began at St. Theresa Private School and proceeded through 14 Stations of the Cross, concluding at the parish church.

The dramatization depicted the agony, crucifixion, and final moments of Jesus Christ, drawing a large crowd of parishioners and residents.

Dressed in biblical costumes, the youth group portrayed key moments of the Passion with emotional intensity, prompting tears, prayers, and reflection from onlookers. The procession was marked by hymns, scriptural readings, and periods of silent contemplation.

“This Passion Play isn’t just a performance — it’s a journey of the heart,” said Rev. Fr. Ben Anike, associate priest of the parish, who led the final prayers and reflections. “It brings the Gospel alive and helps us understand, in a very personal way, the depth of Christ’s love and sacrifice.”

One of the standout moments of the reenactment was the participation of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO), who joined the scene as the “Women of Jerusalem.”

Dressed in coordinated traditional attire, they represented the grieving women who met Jesus on the road to Calvary.

“Our role was symbolic, but for many of us, it was deeply emotional,” said Mrs. Veronica Osho, a member of the CWO. “We felt the pain of Mary and the women of Jerusalem. It reminded us of the strength found in faith and sisterhood.”

The event drew worshippers of all ages, many of whom followed the entire route in prayer and song. Children, elders, and youths alike were united in the solemnity of the occasion.

“It was like stepping into scripture,” said David Adesina, a young parishioner who played the role of Simon of Cyrene. “We felt every scene, every word, every step. It was humbling.”
