The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has berated Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi over his comments regarding recent tragedies in Anambra and Oyo States.
In a post on his X handle, Dare accused Obi of exploiting the unfortunate incidents for political gain, describing his remarks as lacking statesmanship and decency.
The adviser contrasted Obi’s reaction to the tragedies with President Tinubu’s response, emphasizing the President’s statesmanlike approach.
According to him, Tinubu had canceled all engagements to express profound sadness over the loss of lives and ordered an immediate investigation into the incidents.
“This is the way of true leaders. In times of unfortunate tragedy, leaders are expected to speak reasonably and offer support,” he said.
The Special Adviser acknowledged the economic challenges currently facing Nigerians, noting that the government is working to resolve these issues swiftly to improve citizens’ standard of living, highlighting ongoing reforms, which he said are beginning to yield positive results.
The former Sports Minister called for collective responsibility, urging patience, orderliness, and adherence to regulations during events to prevent such tragedies in the future, stressing that while the government has a role to play, citizens must also take responsibility for ensuring safety at public gatherings.
